As Printed in the Reformer Written by Fred Breunig, To the Editor: Speaking as a former resident of Putney for almost 30 years and a housing advocate, I am delighted that the Vermont Supreme Court recently affirmed Windham & Windsor Housing Trust’s permit application to build a new neighborhood in Putney.
I sincerely hope that the negativity generated by a group purporting to be friends of the town will stop, and that true welcome and inclusivity will be the new order of the day. Windham & Windsor Housing Trust has done magnificent work to create affordable housing opportunities in our area and they deserve our applause and support. Join me in enthusiastically providing that support.
This may seem unrelated, but bear with me. Ten years ago, I was involved in establishing The Inclusion Center, Inc. — an IRS tax-exempt organization to support Vermonters living with disabilities. I moved on to other projects a few years later. In a curious series of events last year, The Inclusion Center morphed into something unrecognizable from its original mission, becoming the so-called “Friends of Putney.” I encourage the Friends to look back at their roots of inclusion so they can welcome housing opportunities for all Vermonters.
