Rebecca Gagnon, Bellows Falls Property Owner, stands in front of the building she bought and renovated bringing 4 apartments back on the market after 32 years of vacancy with the help of the Rehousing Recovery Program.
“The plumbing and electric is the biggest thing these buildings need- I had to completely redo it, I couldn’t have done that without the help of the program. Now, I have 4 homes with people lifting up the local economy- eating, working, playing in town. It’s a great place, great community, walking distance to everything- school, food, transit.”
She pauses our conversation to say hi, and have a quick chat with everyone who passes. Rebecca is actively engaged with in the local community and wants to share her knowledge. She knows it’s complicated to apply for grants, line up contractors, create budget sheets, and document she time “in-kind”. She shared that she’d love to work on setting up a mentor program to help other community members who could invest in their own community just like she has. We’ve enjoyed and seen the impact of working with people like Rebecca, creating housing within their communities.
