We are inspired by the vision that all people in Southeastern Vermont have a home they can afford. These homes are safe, are environmentally and economically sustainable, and enhance our neighborhoods, building a community that is diverse, vibrant, and respectful – a place where all residents feel a sense of well-being, belonging and connection.
From building new homes to resident services, from homeownership counseling to building maintenance and home repair, our work as a housing nonprofit filters through many important aspects of everyday life as well as great milestones. On this Giving Tuesday, we hope that you consider joining the global celebration of generosity by giving a gift toward housing stability, community resilience, and programs like food access with a tax deductible gift today. www.homemattershere.org/support-us/

The fall newsletter is here! I am delighted to share our newly published Fall Newsletter with you today. This publication covers the full range of impact our organization has: innovative approaches to food access through our SASH program in Windsor, a story of Joe and Faraja's journey to homeownership in Brattleboro, and how a community can come together to support a neighbor and friend. I include a reflective letter on continued learning and support from NeighborWorks America, and we shine a spotlight on one of our resident board members who is also our board treasurer. We've linked to many of the stories below in the email below; however you can find the complete and formatted PDF version linked in the comments.
In addition to the articles included in this newsletter below, continue to scroll down to find the latest information on our ongoing developments. We're excited to share beautiful footage created by Neagley and Chase of the Central & Main construction progress and we're grateful to share that the Vermont Supreme Court resolved the fourth appeal of the Alice Holway Drive permits, and we are able to move forward with finally creating the 25 homes!

No one goes hungry on Molly Bennett’s watch. Molly is the SASH Coordinator based out of WWHT’s Windsor Village, where, for the last four years, she has helped connect residents and low-income seniors in the community with resources, services and supports that they need to continue to live as independently as possible. That includes bringing healthy food to all who need it. And Molly makes it her business to know exactly who needs it.
As the SASH coordinator, Molly spends her days engaged with the residents of Windsor Village and Union Square, as well as about 25 participants living in private homes in the community. She helps with everything from housing to finances, to health and wellness, to filling out applications for assistance.
“I think we need to be able to meet people’s basic life needs before we can ask them to work on anything else,” she says. “We can’t ask people to make sure they’re going to the doctor and managing their blood pressure, managing their diabetes, managing anything, if they’re hungry. People’s outcomes are going to be so much better if we can just feed them.”
She adds, “You always feel the most love when someone puts a delicious meal in front of you that they’ve made for you. I think that really shows people that we care about them. If I bring a meal – just a little frozen meal – I bring it to someone, and it shows I care about them, that I want them to be okay.”
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at WWHT! Stay tuned for the full story in our upcoming newsletter and enjoy a wonderful holiday!
