On the heels of the latest ruling by Vermont Superior Court rejecting their 3rd appeal, opponents of WWHT’s proposed affordable housing community on Alice Holway Drive in Putney have filed a 4th appeal. In response, WWHT’s Executive Director Elizabeth Bridgewater has issued the following statement:
“We’re not surprised by this latest move from the opponents of this project, but we are disappointed on behalf of every person who needs a new place to live and has to wait yet again. We’re experiencing a housing crisis in Vermont and every new home created is step toward a solution. These new homes in Putney are an opportunity for a senior to downsize and free up a home for young family. They are an opportunity for an employee at a local business to live close to where they work and they are an opportunity for someone who needs an accessible apartment to live in a home that meets their needs. We are confident that this fourth round of litigation will be resolved in our favor and we look forward to a groundbreaking on the site later this year. We also encourage the community at large to visit the Info and FAQ page which includes information on income eligibility (a mix of incomes), the public process, and the two non-profit co-developers (WWHT and Evernorth). We thank housing advocates and community members who have voiced – and continue to voice – their strong support for affordable housing in the community.”
