Testimonials

“Buying a home is super overwhelming, and of course you’ve got your realtor, but it’s good to have somebody else to talk to. Everyone was super friendly, super easy to work with. I really can’t say enough good things about them.”

—Shaunna

“I am so grateful for the opportunities presented by WWHT, for their support of our community, and for making it better. I wish everyone could know about Windham & Windsor Housing Trust.”

—Dora

“Having this apartment matters for us because we can live our lives the way we want to. The fact that my son is able to have his own room, his own things — we’ve both gained a lot of independence.”

—Jessica

“I couldn’t be more pleased with Windham & Windsor Housing Trust to have the vision to move forward with [the Bellows Falls Garage], and be persistent because that’s a building that no one was ever going to touch and work with.”

—Robert

“[The Green Mountain Home Repair Program is] an extremely important resource for the community, and it’s particularly helpful for people who don’t have fantastic credit. If you can’t qualify for anything, you can’t fix your property…. We are just so grateful to WWHT for this program — it allowed us to stay in our home. We belong here, and we are very happy.”

—Gianna

“I’m so happy to have my own apartment — it was one of my goals. It’s good to have your own place, you can think more about life. If I need help, I know people are here for me. This is a good place for me.”

—Mike

WWHT Application Process Beginning to Transition to More Efficient, New System

Overview: Windham & Windsor Housing Trust is transitioning to a more efficient application process designed to reduce wait times, and expedite the leasing process for open apartments. The new system of applying for apartments within WWHT’s affordable housing portfolio is beginning the process of moving away from a traditional Legacy Waitlist – a lengthy and cumbersome mail-based application process – to a new Notification system that is entirely email-based. The active names on the waitlist will be cycled through before the full to the new system is complete.   Beginning November...

Statement: Snow Block Elevator

The elevator has been inoperable at the Snow Block for a prolonged period of time.  Initially we reached out to each resident to let them know what to expect based on what we heard from the elevator company.  We offered to relocate those residents with mobility challenges.  We also began picking up trash at people’s doors so that folks didn’t have to go downstairs for this purpose.  Finally, we’ve hired a person to provide support including food shopping and laundry service.  We continue to reach out, both through our property management team and our SASH For All...

Rockingham’s Old House Awards Recognize Homes, Business, and Farm

By Susan Smallheer, Brattleboro Reformer ROCKINGHAM — The 2024 Annual Rockingham Old House Awards have expanded beyond just historic 'Victorian painted ladies' and colonial-era homes to include a farm and the "historic reconstruction" of the Bellows Falls Garage. The awards, which are the brainchild of the Rockingham Historic Preservation Commission, traditionally recognize some of the older homes in rural Rockingham, Saxtons River and Bellows Falls. This year, the award winners include two homes in Bellows Falls, a home in rural Rockingham, a business in Bellows Falls, a farm in rural...

ADDRESSING AFFORDABLE HOUSING: FUNDING MATTERS

Co-signed: Elizabeth Bridgewater, Executive Director, Windham & Windsor Housing TrustChris Campany, Executive Director, Windham Regional Commission Housing remains at the top of the media cycle for good reason: there are still not enough homes for people. Recently, Vermont’s Department of Housing and Community Development and the Natural Resources Board released the Act 250 Interim Exemption Map. The map is a helpful visual representation of the update to Vermont’s landmark development law, designed to ease regulatory restrictions and lower barriers for developers to build more housing...

Creating the Conceptual Design for Redevelopment of the Chalet: A focused, 9-month undertaking with the neighborhood

We're excited to share some insight into how we developed the conceptual plans for the neighborhood development and preservation of the Chalet. If you'd like to learn more about the Chalet from 2020 to now, we've put together a newsletter piece detailing the background and the beginning of this redevelopment work. It was important to engage residents who live at the Chalet now, the staff with Groundworks which supports these residents, the neighbors of the site (including Academy School and South Street residents), as well as town experts in planning, zoning, and fire safety to gain an...

In the News: Windsor housing project set to start construction

By NEIL ALLEN, Eagle Times Correspondent  WINDSOR, Vt. — Four years after the planning started for the 25 unit Central & Main housing project in Windsor, co-developers Windham & Windsor Housing Trust (WWHT) and Evernorth are moving from remediation to construction.  “We are reaching a big milestone as we’re moving from excavation activities to building construction activities, which means we’re past one of the most risky parts of construction,” said Marion Major, outreach coordinator for WWHT.  The remediation work began on the site at 133 Main St. in March and the building is...

Statement: Snow Block Elevator Repair

The belts for the elevator at the Snow Block need to be replaced and the parts were ordered and on hand within a few days of the malfunction being reported in June.  The delay is due to the belts needing to be custom made by the company that installed the elevator and there is a backlog at their business to completing this. We were told that it would be several weeks for the new belts to be completed.  Resident with mobility issues were offered a ground level hotel room during the time that the elevator was not functioning, but declined the offer.  We’ve been collecting trash at people’s...

The application process is shifting in order to be more efficient and fill apartments faster. The full transition will take time to complete as we will not be eliminating the waitlists associated with each building but there is an important step to take as an active applicant. Read below for basic information, to find more detailed information and why this is important, visit our website: https://www.homemattershere.org/wwht-application-process-beginning-to-transition-to-more-efficient-new-system/

Beginning November 15th, applicants will go to WWHT’s website, homemattershere.org, and fill out a very brief form with their name, household size and email address. Once the existing waitlist has been exhausted, applicants will automatically receive notifications via email when apartments become available, and should be ready to submit their completed application if the unit matches their preferences. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applicants who are already on the legacy waitlist were mailed a postcard directly about the change, and must respond to confirm their status and current contact information in order to maintain priority standing on the waitlist. Existing applicants have until November 12th to respond; if no response is received, the applicant will be removed from the legacy waitlist to create an active and efficient list. Leasing agents will continue to cycle through the confirmed list of existing applicants before implementing the new system. Existing applicants who wish to remain on the legacy waitlist should contact Leasing at (802) 246-2124, or mgero@homemattershere.org.

We have designed a transition that allows folks who are already on the current waiting list to maintain their priority status if they choose. To launch this transition, we’ve sent out a postcard asking folks to let us know if they want to stay on the list. If folks do not respond, they will be removed from the list. On the same day we sent the postcard, we hosted the meeting with case managers so they were informed on the transition and what steps their clients can take now.

Note: This change does not apply to Permanent Supportive Housing Sites
